Friends and Volunteers Life
for the residents would not be the same without the Friends
A "friend" is someone who is able to devote a significant amount
of time to Abbeyfield Great Missenden and achieving its aims. It will involve the
occasional meeting to develop policy and the taking part in or taking direct responsibility
for an agreed fundraising activity. An "associate friend" gives
up less time, but can on the occasional basis help improve the well-being and
quality of the life of the residents. This might involve providing lifts for the
residents to doctors, helping man stalls at events, selling raffle tickets, collecting
prizes or assisting at a coffee morning or even reading or playing a game with
a resident. The 200 ClubBoth "friends", "associate
friends", residents and sponsors are invited to join the 200 Club. This club
was formed in 2003 as a way of raising funds for the building extension and as
a way for giving some pleasure in the form of a mini lottery. In essence 60% of
the money raised is given to Abbeyfield and 40% is given away in prizes at quarterly
draws. Fundraising
Over the last five years, the Friends have concentrated on fundraising and have raised over £160,000 towards the £300,000 Abbeyfield House building improvements.
Fundraising will still continue but in a small way to pay for various items that will improve the lives of our residents. |
