Abbeyfield Great Missenden History and Beliefs

Communal areaAbbeyfield Society Ltd mainly provides sheltered housing for the elderly. But gradually the number of houses that offer either registered car and/or nursing care are increasing. In total there are about 9000 residents in about 650 houses throughout the country.

Abbeyfield Great Missenden is affiliated to the national movement but it is an independent charity managed by a board of trustees operating to the standards and ethos of the Abbeyfield Society Ltd and provides only very sheltered accommodation for fifteen elderly residents.

There is a full time House Manager and Deputy and a further five members of staff. Both members of the management team can and do live on the premises while working. When management is off duty however, the house operates an emergency call system that is linked to a service provided by Wycombe District Council.

The enthusiastic and professional board of trustees aim to provide for the residents a well equipped caring environment and well trained and caring staff.

Choice and Dignity

We believe passionately that the high standards of accommodation, quality of life and the rights of the citizen should never be compromised.

Our Shared Beliefs are:

  1. Older people have an important role to play amongst their family friends and in the community.

  2. Overcoming loneliness and insecurity can make all the difference to an older person’s well-being and quality of life.

  3. Local people have an essential part in helping older people in the community.
